Yet more old sketchbook things.... as I go along it occurs to me that there could well be several thousand drawings.
My first thought had been simply to photograph the sketchbooks and burn them onto cd's, partly because some are done in oil directly on paper, which is beginning to deteriorate. Then I thought, well, why not start a new blog - up until now this work had been shoved away out of sight in trunks and boxes, and whenever I showed anyone they always were surprised because the oil paintings I make are so different from this stuff. My past life, hidden from view.
Until now!
And gradually I am becoming aware of just how much work I have in those old books. This may become a colossal project...
Lately I have found that this documenting is rekindling my interest in drawing/painting people. Hmmm, interesting.
Last week I bought a new sketchbook, a nib pen and some coloured inks. Found my old fishing tackle box which was my portable art kit, and restocked it. Unearthed the old Chinese ink brushes, some of them bought in Malaysia (how exotic!) Discovered that an old ice-cube tray is the perfect thing for mixing washes, and fits beautifully into my newly reconstructed art box.
So now I am not only documenting work from 10 years ago, I am also making new work, some of which I have been posting here too. Past meets present. Wonder what the future will hold?
